Mail Art: A Case for Digital Detox

Do you like receiving mail? Not junk mail, letters. Handwritten letters stuffed in doodle-filled envelopes sent to you by a friend. I like to send and receive letters, or notes, as I call them. Sometimes they come with a gift, a heartfelt letter or a piece of surprise art. Other times, they look like this. Quirky, quick and not-at-all perfect. Have you received a note from me? If you’d like one, send me your details and wait for your personal post!

Rotary Global Service Project: Guatemala

To top off my Rotary Presidential Year, I was blessed to embark on a Rotary Global Service Project in Antigua Guatemala.

Of the many projects and local volunteer opportunities, we restored a small mural at an elementary school. Before restoration, the children were all one skin color - beige. With the help of our team and these awesome high schoolers, we diversified the kiddos and had the time of our lives!

Ceramics: Because I want to do everything

If you’ve ever attempted to make something - a pretty song, a painting, a short film, a garden - you know it’s an investment. I took a casual hand building clay class a few years ago and immediately regretted having to work for a living. Why can’t we all just play all day?

Illustration: Updating a State Park Activity Guide

Several years ago, we created an in-house Sea Rim Activity Book for kids who want to learn more about the park in a fun, interactive way.

Recently, we decided to update a handful of illustrations about a business day before going to print. Some of the coloring book illustrations felt outdated, some of them felt juvenile and some were just flat wrong. Here’s a look at some updates. It’s the first time I’ve requested an illustrator’s credit!
