I started this painting in 2019 and finished in 2021. Some projects are like that. You go as far as you can in the moment, and somewhere along the way, you pick up where you left off. In the time between stopping and starting again, my oil painting greatly improved. I had to rearrange many elements and felt more confident all the while. As I was finally completing the painting, one of my cats took a walk-about across her face and I had to spend an hour delicately lifting lime green paw prints across her eyes and nose.

“Sydney” was painted as a gift to my step sister. It’s a portrait of her beloved only child.
