Roseate Spoonbills are a local favorite here in Southeast Texas. Their brightly-colored plumage is a marvelous sight against the dull greens and greys of their marshy environment. I decided to paint this roseate spoonbill extra pink, indicating that he (or she?) is a full-grown, healthy bird with a belly full of shrimp, crabs and other crustaceans. Hang this iconic Gulf Coast mascot in your office to remind you of the beach, or in your beach house to remind you of the friendly and whimsical natural world just outside your front door.
